On May 30, members of Dallas Association of Young Lawyers learned how to make nutritious and delicious Margherita Flatbreads from the talented chefs and interns at local non-profit Café Momentum. The event was hosted by the DAYL Wellness Committee and curated by PSS attorney Nicole Karam and her committee co-chairs. Café Momentum’s CEO and Executive Chef Chad Houser, recently recognized as a “CNN Hero,” was on hand to supervise and socialize with the young professionals, who by all accounts enjoyed a terrific and meaningful evening.

PalterLaw Names Nathanial Martinez as Equity Member
With great pleasure, PalterLaw announces that experienced commercial litigator Nathanial Martinez has been named an equity member of the Firm.
The firm was founded in 2013. Effective January 1, 2018, Mr. Martinez became an equity member of the limited liability company. Mr. Martinez received his law degree from J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University in 2010. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Government from the University of Texas at Austin in 2006.
Mr. Martinez began his legal career at the high-stakes commercial litigation firm of Brewer Attorneys & Counselors, formerly Bickel & Brewer, before joining PalterLaw in 2012. As an associate, Mr. Martinez was lead attorney on several complex litigation matters and participated in many jury trials as second chair. Mr. Martinez’s litigation and arbitration practice focuses on a variety of complex commercial matters, including intellectual property disputes, trade secret misappropriation, breach of contract, and business torts. Mr. Martinez also cultivated a special expertise in employment law, representing several small businesses and medical professionals in a variety of employment-related disputes.

“Start With The End in Mind” — John Palter’s philosophy for successful business planning
Recently, D Magazine’s popular “DCEO” publication reached out to Managing Member John Palter for insight on the recent legal battle between ZeniMax and Oculus over ownership and marketing of the intellectual property behind Oculus’ popular “Oculus Rift” virtual reality headset. John offered his strategic advice for 21st century businesses, especially in technology fields, urging them to operate with the end in mind, whether that’s a sale or some other exit strategy:
“As the Dallas economy is becoming more driven by technology—and that’s either with patents, trade secrets, or copyrights—that becomes the real assets of these companies,” he says. “It is the driving force … these companies create.” This step becomes particularly important when companies seek a sale or exit of the business.
